Coaching ExperienceCoach Tovar began his coaching career as an Assistant Baseball Coach at R. L Turner High School in 1995-1996. He became Head Baseball Coach at Sunset High School in Dallas ISD from 1996-2006. After Sunset, he moved to become the Assistant Varsity Coach at W.T. White High School from 2006 - 2010. This is his first year as Head Baseball Coach at Berkner High School. Coach Tovar has been coaching baseball for 21 years. Including coaching with some of the metroplex's top select 16 - 18 year old youth baseball teams: DBAT Mustangs, McKinney Marshals, Dallas Panthers, and Dallas Mustangs.EducationCoach Tovar graduated from Navarro College with an associate degree in Science in 1989 and Texas State University in 1993 with a degree in Sports Science and History. He was an All Conference player at Navarro College (1989). He was chosen as an All Metroplex / Area / District team 1st team player while at W.T. White. Coach Tovar brings 17 years of teaching experience to Berkner.PersonalMany of Coach Tovar's family are in education as teachers and adminstrators in the metroplex and at the collegiate level. His wife, Jennifer, teaches science at W.T. White High School in Dallas ISD. His brother-in-law, Jonhnny Cardenas is the Head Coach at Stephen F. Austin University. Coach Tovar has 2 children, Major and Marissa. Coach Tovar's parents live in Lake Highlands area.Varsity Assistant Coach Trent Starnes
Coaching ExperienceBHS Assistant Baseball Coach from 2005-present. Coach Starnes has also been a member of the Berkner Varsity coaching staff since 2005.EducationCoach Starnes graduated from Stephen F. Austin State University in 2004 with a bachelor's degree in Kinesiology and a minor in Special Education. Coaches football (freshman defensive coach) and begins his 7th season at Berkner High School.PersonalCoach Starnes has been married to his wife Cassie since August of 2004. She is a 4th grade teacher at the MST Elementary in Richardson ISD.. Coach Starnes and Cassie have a son Lane who is 2 years old. They are expecting their 2nd child in April. The Starnes also have 2 dogs - Molly and Marty.
Junior Varsity Coach David Blacklock(Picture coming soon) Coaching Experience In his first year at Berkner High School and first year to coach baseball, Coach Blacklock coached football in the fall and has two years of swimming in Abilene at Abilene High School. EducationCoach Blacklock has a teaching degree from Abilene Christian University. He has been teaching for 5 years. PersonalCoach Blacklock married his wife Brenna last summer.
